DDS in alpharettaGolsen Family Dentistry provides general dentistry services that focus on preventing tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease. Our goal is to detect cavities early with treatment as small as possible, and our use of advanced technologies allows us to have this philosophy. We encourage prevention of oral diseases through proper hygiene and regular, twice yearly, checkups for professional cleaning and evaluation by a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD.

We think you’ll be amazed when you come to our dental practice for the first time. Not only do we perform dentistry in a high-tech, high-touch dental facility using state-of-the-art equipment, we have an exceptional team who are here to provide comfortable, gentle dentistry in an atmosphere to make you feel pampered. To help distract you from the dental procedure, we provide comfortable chairs, head phones, TV’s on the ceilings and even warm neck pillows.

At Golsen Family Dentistry, our BIOLASE® Waterlase laser uses an airborne stream of water so our doctors can remove the decay with less drilling, noise or pain. Also, in addition to making the process more comfortable for you, Waterlase reserves more of your natural tooth.

Most Americans experience some form of periodontal disease; it’s responsible for adult tooth loss, bad breath and receding gum lines. However, periodontal disease can be easily prevented with proper maintenance, home care and professional treatment. If diagnosed in its early stages, periodontal disease may be treated easily and effectively. We complete full-mouth periodontal probing, deep cleanings, and therapeutic scaling and curettage in areas where you need it. We want to help you maintain good oral health and your natural teeth.

Periodontal disease occurs when bacteria build up on your teeth, under the gums, causing your gums to become swollen and red. This inflammation eventually results in the loosening of teeth that can cause them to fall out. For many patients with periodontal disease, we can now manage it non-surgically using antibiotics, like Arestin®, which contains a potent, low-dose antibiotic administered directly into the infected pockets between your teeth. When used with scaling, Arestin® significantly reduces the depth of infected pockets and helps prevent disease progression. Adding proper maintenance and homecare, your periodontal tissue can remain a healthy, gleaming pink.

In addition, some of our patients have problems with the temporomandibular joint, which can cause pain and/or headaches. This joint connects the lower jaw to the temporal bone at the side of the head, and some people feel discomfort or pain with these muscles that control jaw function. Other symptoms of include clicking sound of the jaw, limited movement of the jaw, a change in the way the upper and lower teeth fit together, headaches, earaches and dizziness. We offer splint therapy to prevent medically diagnosed migraine pain, tension-type headache, and jaw disorders without drugs or surgery. In addition, we use adjunctive BOTOX® therapy to diminish the muscle activity to help reduce clenching and grinding as well as muscle thickness.

The groundwork of oral health is proper cleaning and care for your mouth and teeth. Doing this includes things like daily brushing and flossing as your dentist would suggest, using mouth rinses, and having routine dental cleanings. The typical person should receive at least two dental cleanings a year, or one every 6 months. Deep dental cleanings are also performed as needed for treatment of conditions such as gum disease. It is important to make and keep dental cleaning appointments to sustain good oral health.

To treat a cavity your Alpharetta dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed. Fillings may also be used to repair cracked or broken teeth or teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).
